Durga Puja Thali

Sunderkand Paath

1. Sunderkand is the only episode in the whole Ramayana where Hanuman is considered a hero, not Rama. Hanuman was called as ‘Sundara’ by his mother Anjani, therefore Valmiki kept this episode name as Sunderkand.

2. Various adventures of Hanuman, his selflessness, devotion, strength etc are emphasized in this episode of Ramayana.

3. Lord Hanuman is invoked along with Gauri, Ganesh, Kalash-Navgraha Puja, then Sunderkand Paath is performed by well-trained priests in the form of bhajans and kirtans with the help of dholak, manjeera, harmonium etc.

4. This Paath can be performed on any important day. Tuesday and Saturday are considered auspicious.
